National Fluorescent Paint for Signs and High-Visibility Marking

Bright orange detour road sign

Signs, barriers and hazard markings need to stand out. Short answer: National Fluorescent Paint is a solvent-based acrylic with fluorescent pigment, in red, orange, yellow and green. National’s system is one coat of Acrylic Rock Top Coat (matt) followed by two coats of Fluorescent Paint, with an optional Nationalthane Clear overcoat for outdoor exposure. Frequently asked questions

Can I use it for car park lines?

National lists road signs, not road surfaces. For lines on asphalt and kerbs, use National Road Marking paint.

Which thinner?

National Fluorescent Thinner, 5 to 15%. Our thinner guide covers the other National products.

Step 1: prepare the surface

  • Masonry: clean, dry and sound, per National’s surface preparation guide.
  • Steel signs and posts: degrease, then clean to Sa 2.5 or St 2 and prime.
  • Over Acrylic Rock: National lists it over matt Acrylic Rock to boost visibility.

What the numbers mean

Coverage = 43 × 10 ÷ 35 ≈ 12.3 m² per litre, matching the sheet’s 12. Wet film = 35 ÷ 0.43 ≈ 81 microns, matching its 80.
