National Paints Bathroom and Kitchen Wall Systems Compared

Bathroom with blue painted ceiling and white tiles

Bathroom and kitchen walls face steam, splashes and regular cleaning. Short answer: National Paints’ specifier lists five wall systems for these rooms. Wall Rock is epoxy-based with a polyurethane topcoat. Nationaltile and Acrylic Rock are water-based texture systems with a hard topcoat. Eco ends in gloss emulsion, and the alkyd system ends in synthetic enamel. Each is listed below.

How to choose

  • Smooth, painted look: the alkyd system is the only one here without a spray texture coat.
  • Tile-effect finish: Wall Rock, Nationaltile, Acrylic Rock and Eco all use a spray texture coat under the topcoat.
  • Polyurethane topcoat: Wall Rock and Nationaltile both finish in Nationalthane. Nationalthane is a two-pack product, mixed 4:1 with an 8-hour pot life at 30°C, according to its data sheet.

The specifier does not rank these systems against each other, so for a project specification, confirm the choice with National Paints or your consultant.

Frequently asked questions

Can I just use emulsion in a bathroom?

Matt and eggshell emulsions are not among the bathroom and kitchen systems in the specifier. For dry rooms, see the interior wall system.

What about bathroom doors?

The specifier has a separate alkyd system for doors and frames. See National wood finishing systems.
