Terragrout G11: How Much Grout You Need and How to Use It

Red and blue mosaic tiles with white grout joints

Terragrout G11 is Terraco’s cement grout for ceramic tile joints. Short answer: it is a polymer-modified, water-resistant grout for joints up to 5 mm, classified CG1 under EN 13888, the European standard for tile grouts. Terraco lists it for interior and exterior use, including bathrooms, kitchens and swimming pools. Grout 24 hours after fixing the tiles, cure the joints for 3 days, and allow 7 days before full use. This guide follows Terraco’s UAE technical data sheet.

How much grout you need

Grout use depends on tile size, tile thickness and joint width. Selected rows from Terraco’s coverage table (kg/m²):

Tile size (mm)3 mm joint4 mm joint5 mm joint
100 × 100 × 60.60.81.0
200 × 200 × 80.40.50.6
300 × 300 × 100.30.40.5
400 × 400 × 100.20.30.4
600 × 600 × 12–0.30.3

Smaller tiles mean more joints per square metre, so they use more grout. Two examples, by our calculation:

  • 20 m² of 300 × 300 mm wall tiles with 3 mm joints: 6 kg, so two 5 kg bags.
  • 30 m² of 600 × 600 mm floor tiles with 4 mm joints: 9 kg, so two 5 kg bags.

The full data sheet covers 16 tile sizes; it is linked under Sources.

How to grout with Terragrout G11

  1. Wait about 24 hours after fixing the tiles. Clean excess adhesive from the joints and tile edges, and dampen porous tiles.
  2. Mix with 30% water to a thick, creamy consistency. Let it stand 5 minutes, then re-stir.
  3. Work diagonally across the joints with a rubber-edged spatula. Do not grout more area than you can finish within an hour.
  4. Clean off the excess with a moist sponge before it dries. Once dry but before it hardens, polish the tiles with a dry cloth.
  5. Cure. Moisten the joints 24 hours after grouting and keep curing for 3 days.
