Handytex is Terraco’s ready-mixed texturing compound for interior ceilings and walls. You roll or brush it on, then pattern it with a brush, roller or comb. Short answer: prime with Penetrating Primer, apply Handytex about 1 m² at a time at 0.6 to 1.2 kg/m², texture it while wet, and leave it 12 to 24 hours before painting over it. It is an interior product; for facades, Terraco’s textured finish is Terracoat. This guide follows Terraco’s UAE technical data sheet.

Where it can go
Terraco lists most interior ceiling and wall surfaces, including precast concrete, sand/cement render, gypsum plaster and drywall. For gypsum board ceilings, tape and finish the joints first; see our guide to taping gypsum boards.
Preparing the surface
- New surfaces: remove dust, dirt and loose matter; make sure the surface is free of salts, oil, grease and ridges; repair cracks and voids with Terraco Handycoat Exterior.
- Old surfaces: check the substrate is firm; wash with sugar soap solution, rinse and let dry.
- Prime with Penetrating Primer. Our Terraco primer guide explains the options.
Applying Handytex
- Dilute if needed with up to 10% water for a lighter texture.
- Apply a liberal coat over about 1 m² at a time by brush or roller.
- Texture it with the chosen tool (brush, roller or comb), keeping a wet edge so sections blend.
- Finish the edges with a small brush to form a 15 to 30 mm border where the ceiling meets the wall.
- Wait 12 to 24 hours before top-coating. Clean tools with water.
Try your tool and dilution on a spare board first; the pattern depends on the tool and how much material you leave on the surface.
How much you need
At 0.6 to 1.2 kg/m², a 25 kg pail covers about 21 to 42 m². A 30 m² ceiling needs 18 to 36 kg: one pail for a light texture, two for a heavy one. These are our own calculations from Terraco’s coverage figure.
