National Acrylic Super Emulsion: Economical Interior Acrylic, Coverage and System

Paint roller in a tray of white paint

Short answer: National Acrylic Super Emulsion is an economical, water-based acrylic emulsion for interior walls only, with a smooth flat finish, good adhesion and washability. National’s system is one coat of Acrylic Primer (W.B.), one coat of Stucco Filler, then two coats of Acrylic Super. It covers about 7.5 to 9.5 m² per litre, recoats in 2 to 4 hours at 30°C, and thins 10 to 15% with water.

National’s three economical interior emulsions

National makes three interior emulsions with the same solids and coverage on paper. They differ in resin, primer and, by the data sheets’ own wording, performance claims:

Step 1: prepare the wall

  • Clean, dry and sound; brush off dust and loose material; degrease kitchen walls with detergent and rinse.
  • Remove laitance and efflorescence on new plaster, as National’s surface preparation guide requires.
  • Repair cracks with Joint Filler.

Step 2: the system

  1. Acrylic Primer (W.B.), one coat (10 to 12 m² per litre, recoat 2 to 3 hours).
  2. Stucco Filler, one coat.
  3. Acrylic Super Emulsion, two coats.

What the numbers mean

Coverage = 380 ÷ 40 = 9.5 and 380 ÷ 50 = 7.6 m² per litre, matching the sheet. A 45-micron coat needs about 118 microns wet.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use it outside?

No, the data sheet says interior application only. For exterior walls, see Super Matt or Acryl Emulsion II.

Is “Acrylic Super” the same as “Super Matt”?

No. Acrylic Super is an economical interior emulsion (38% solids). Super Matt is an interior and exterior acrylic with 42% solids and slightly higher coverage.
