Short answer: National Shield Ultra Silk is a roller-applied silk texture in National’s Shield range. Its data sheet gives a wide film range, 150 to 500 microns dry per coat, so the same product can be rolled light or heavy. Coverage runs from about 3 m² per litre at a light build to about 1 m² per litre at a heavy one.

Step 1: prepare the wall
- Clean, dry and sound; pressure-wash exteriors at 2200 psi minimum, per National’s surface preparation guide.
- Remove laitance, efflorescence and loose material.
- Repair cracks with Joint Filler.
Step 2: the system
- Primer: the primer listed on the data sheet. Ask us and we will confirm it for your surface.
- Shield Ultra Silk, rolled to the texture you want.
What the numbers mean
Coverage = volume solids × 10 ÷ dry film. At 150 microns: 490 ÷ 150 ≈ 3.3 m² per litre. At 500 microns: 490 ÷ 500 ≈ 1 m² per litre. So a heavy build needs about three times the paint of a light one. Agree the texture on a sample panel before you order.

The data sheet lists roller application. If you need to spray, Fine Silk and Tex Silk list roller or spray.
How do I keep the texture even?
Use one roller type for the whole job, keep a wet edge and break only at corners or joints. More in National textures compared.
