Handycoat ACP: Terraco’s Anti-Condensation Skimcoat for Interior Walls

Interior wall being plastered during a home renovation

Damp patches and mould on the inside face of exterior walls are a common problem in air-conditioned rooms. Terraco makes a skimcoat for exactly this: Handycoat ACP. Short answer: Handycoat ACP is a lightweight, acrylic anti-condensation filler and skimming compound for interior walls, applied 2 to 5 mm thick. Terraco designs it for the inside faces of exterior walls where cold bridging causes condensation, and describes it as fungal resistant. It does not fix leaks or poor ventilation, so those come first. This guide is based on Terraco’s UAE technical data sheet.

Terraco lists these properties: anti-condensation, fungal resistant, lightweight, quick drying, low shrinkage, vapour permeable, does not flake off, and can be applied over previously painted surfaces.

Fix the cause first

A skimcoat treats the wall surface. If damp comes from a roof or pipe leak, rising moisture or a bathroom with no extract fan, repair that before skimming. Where mould has already grown, clean and treat it first; our guide to removing mould before painting covers the steps.

Where it can go

Terraco lists gypsum board, sand/cement render, cement fibre board, precast and in-situ concrete, and previously painted interior surfaces.

How to apply it

  1. Prepare. Scrape and brush the surface clean. Apply Penetrating Primer on dusting surfaces; see our Terraco primer guide.
  2. Apply in thin, even layers. Build thicker coats in several layers, letting each dry.
  3. Sand lightly before painting, within 24 hours.
  4. Clean tools with water.

How much you need

At 2 to 3 kg/m², an 18 kg container covers about 6 to 9 m² and a 4 kg pack about 1.3 to 2 m². A 12 m² bedroom wall needs 24 to 36 kg, so two 18 kg containers. These are our own calculations from Terraco’s coverage figure.
