Handyspray FC vs Handycoat Interior: Skimming Interior Walls with Terraco

Interior walls during building work before skimming and painting

Terraco makes two ready-mixed acrylic fillers for getting interior walls smooth before paint: Handyspray FC and Handycoat Interior Stucco Putty. Short answer: Handyspray FC is the large-area skimcoat. It has an extra-fine particle size, can be sprayed or troweled, comes in 25 kg packs, and Terraco says the finished surface needs no primer before painting. Handycoat Interior is the everyday filler for repairs and smaller areas, applied up to 1 mm per coat, in packs from 1 kg. This guide compares them using Terraco’s UAE technical data sheets.

Both are white, vapour permeable, quick drying, with negligible shrinkage, and both are lightly sanded before painting, preferably within 24 hours. Both can be skimmed over other Handycoat or Sprayplaster grades.

When to use Handyspray FC

Handyspray FC suits fit-outs and whole apartments, where spraying speeds up large areas. Terraco lists cement-based materials, gypsum, gypsum boards, sprayplasters, wood, precast or fair-faced concrete, sand/cement render and cement fibre board. Because Terraco does not publish a coverage figure, base your order on a trial area.

When to use Handycoat Interior

Handycoat Interior is the one for patching holes, cracks and dents and skimming single walls. A 5 kg pail covers about 12.5 to 25 m² per coat by our calculation. Our Handycoat Interior guide walks through it step by step.

Other Terraco interior fillers

  • Board joints: Gypsum Joint Compound for taping gypsum boards.
  • Condensation: Handycoat ACP, a 2 to 5 mm anti-condensation skim for the inside of exterior walls.
  • Decorative texture: Handytex for textured ceilings and walls.

How to apply

  1. Prepare. Brush away dust, dirt and foreign matter; remove ridges and form oil.
  2. Prime dusting or flaking surfaces as in the table; see our Terraco primer guide.
  3. Apply thin, even layers by trowel (or spray, for Handyspray FC). Apply two or more coats if needed, letting each dry.
  4. Sand lightly before painting, preferably within 24 hours. Clean tools with water.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use either on a ceiling?

Terraco describes Handycoat Interior for interior walls and ceilings. Handyspray FC’s data sheet lists substrates rather than locations, including gypsum boards and concrete.

Why does Handyspray FC have a shorter shelf life?

The data sheet gives 9 months unopened, without a reason. Order it close to when it will be used.
